How to Study Smart

Why do some students study very hard, spending most of their time doing their revision but they aren’t the best in their study group? And why are there some students who only spend a fraction of the time studying but they often get good or even outstanding results? This was not due to the lack of natural talent in studies but it simply means that they have not found an effective tool which acts as a knack for understanding concepts and learning new ideas. One of the smart study habits is by using mind-map to promote effective and accelerated learning experience. A mind map is a useful web-like structure which emphasizes visual imagery that helps to engage in critical thinking and seeing a bigger picture. Empirically, mind-mapping is proven as an effective method of note-taking as an active learning (Abi-El-Mona and Abd-Ei-Khalick, 2008; Liu, Zhao and Ma et al., 2014). Mind mapping makes learning more vivid, thus promotes creative thinking and encourages brainstorming. Th

In the fast-paced world nowadays, technology has played vital roles in our life. It has transformed from the “wants” to our “needs”. There is even electronics home now where everything in the house functions electronically and you would just need to give a command or press a button and everything will be served. You may say that this is just one of the thousand people who own such luxurious home. But let’s look into our life, for example, in the LRT. Most of the time, the people would just playing with their phone, scrolling through Facebook, playing games, or gossip with their friends in the midst of waiting for their respective stations. Hence, the emergence of technology into our life is significant and undeniable.

In the interview with Jack Ma, the founder of Alibaba Group, he predicted that in the coming future, artificial intelligence will transcend human knowledge, leading to job loss (Ward, 2017a). This means that the machines will slowly take over human’s task where human power is no longer needed. Thus, what really matters in the future is data. In the other words, skills associated with data and its analysis will become extremely valuable in the prospective job market.

According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) (2015), the job outlook of data analysts in the coming seven years is of 34%, which is so much faster than the average. Their main task is to collect and analyze the data and trend in order to help solve real-world problems in many different industries. For example, in the field of e-commerce, the data analysts may help the company to improve their relationship marketing with the customers by studying how the customers feel about the product through customer reviews, feedbacks and suggestions. This trove of information may be obtained from the purchase-transaction data from commercial websites or the data collected from the customers who visit the websites several times a day. They may also use such techniques to suggest alternative products to the customers when the users browse through the products online.

In the meanwhile, I think we should heed the advice of executives from the global leaders in technology. Google executive Jonathan Rosenberg and executive chairman Eric Schmidt, said that data analytics will become increasingly important for the survival in the workplace. It is the top skill where the young professionals should learn more about as we are going into the world where the technology outpaces human intelligence (Ward, 2017b).

From what has been said by the famous businessmen in the field of e-commerce, it is to bear in mind that artificial intelligence and machines learning will create computers so sophisticated and godlike that the humans will need to keep up their step to catch up with the wave before being fall behind. Information transparency helps people to well determine who is telling the truth. Therefore, it is your responsibility to grab the essential skills before the technology tells you who the boss is!
