I believe in the power of story because stories, either the one stored
in our memories or those that we create as we interact with the world, are an
important key in the aspects of learning. All of us live by narrative as it is the
common way of living through the chaotic and unforgiving world. Stories must be
authentic to engage our emotions and imaginations. And now, I have a few
stories to share.
Mark
Zuckerberg, the founder of Facebook
Mark Zuckerberg went through his serious low point in the business when
Yahoo gave him a very good offer of buying the company. Despite the superior
offer, he made the hardest decision to keep the business as he believed that the
network can be built beyond the ten millions people in school. He was very
stressful as many people disagreed to his decision, but the most painful part
was when the whole management team left the company within a year after that. However,
he did not give up and he learnt and grew together with the company. He managed
to foresee a bigger picture and believed in what he was doing to come this long
way to the Facebook today (CNNMoney, 2016).
Mac Chung
Lynn, Group CEO of Nando’s Malaysia and Singapore
Mac Chung Lynn was graduated in U.K. and had planned to stay in London
to pursue her Architecture dream. She met with the top architects around London
and managed to get her first job in a week. However, she took risk by giving up
the 7 years architecture experience and changed the course of her life to a
completely different direction. She took the courage to return to her home
country, Malaysia to start up a chicken business. And today, it is what we call
as Nando’s. Perseverance and constant hard work shape her into what she is
today. She is not afraid of failure because she embraces challenges, enjoys challenges
and she welcomes challenges! (Monsta, 2017a)
Bryan Loo,
the CEO of Loob Holding
Bryan Loo had worked in a biotech firm for 2 years, and it all started
when he wanted to create his own business. It was a tough journey as he had to
start all by his own as none of his relations are in the F&B industry. He
got rejected countless times by all the top ten companies but he took all the
rejections positively, which is the hardest especially when you have to be your
source of light to guide you through the dark path. What he learnt throughout the
journey was to hold on your passion and believe in yourself, because every steps that you are taking will eventually bring you to the reality. And now, his
vision allowed Tealive to serve more than 2.5 million Malaysians every month (Monsta,
2017b).
Life can be changed by story-telling and my life is changed by the story
of every successful person in the world. We listen, we feel and we get
inspired, and now we can change those stories to transform our personal lives
to a better and fruitful ones. So, what is your story?
